Nancy Schornack, LMHC, CDWF-C Family Legacy Counseling/Des Moines, Iowa
Having received my M.A. from Colorado Christian University, I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the State of Iowa. My past clinical experiences include work in residential treatment and an agency setting providing an array of services to children, teens, and families. Since 1995 I have been in private practice in Des Moines, Iowa, focusing my clinical work towards adults and couples. In April of 2017 I opened Second Journey Counseling. You can learn more about my practice at www.secondjourneycounseling.com.
With nearly 30 years of counseling experience, I enjoy working with women, helping them cultivate emotional, relational, and spiritual balance and health. Drawing not only from my professional expertise, but also from 'just living life', I strive to understand women and all that accompanies them: friendships, singleness, partners, kids, busyness and clutter, order and control, loss and heartache, and spiritual journey. Through participating in ongoing training, and learning every day from those I counsel, I stay equipped to address the unique challenges of depression, anxiety, ADD, eating disorders, grief, past/current trauma, relationships, and spiritual formation that women encounter.
I also counsel with couples in various seasons of live, and work attentively to help them repair what has been broken, heal from betrayal, restore trust, renew friendship, increase intimacy, and become allies in life.
Foundational to my work is my conviction that relationships are at the heart of change, and that one's life is a meaningful story, worthy of a contemplative read. If you were to ask me how I would best describe the counseling experience, I would say it is inviting another to read your story with you. In doing so you can gain perspective about past chapters, live mindfully in present chapters, and author redemptive chapters to come.
I am a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator and Consultant (CDWF-C) involving intensive training in the areas of shame resiliency, authenticity, and wholehearted living based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown. This work parallels my own convictions in the value of being ransomed from shame and living wholeheartedly, and permeates my counseling in significant ways. If you are interested in pursuing consultation with me, please go to my consultation page at www.secondjourneycounseling.com . Youmay also learn more about Dr. Brené Brown at www.thedaringway.com.
Speaking and facilitating retreats, seminars, and small groupson a variety of topics related to women, parenting, marriage and spiritual growth is also a passion. If you would be interested in having me speak at an event or facilitate a retreat or seminar, please contact me at nschornack@gmail.com and I'd love to discuss ideas with you.
I serve on the board of directors for Quakerdale, a non-profit organization joining with youth, families, and communities through opportunities of prevention, education, and support.
My greatest life pleasure is being married to my husband, Kent, and being mom to our two adult sons. As a family we love adventure, travel, sports, movies and books, humor, and friendships.
